Stanley McChrystal was appointed by President Obama to head the advisory board of the new “Joining Forces” program. In response, Mary Tillman [Pat Tillman’s mother] said, “It’s a slap in the face to appoint this man” … “He deliberately helped cover up Pat’s death”… someone who has a heartfelt desire to help families would not have been involved in the cover-up of a soldier’s death…”

When asked about Mary’s remarks, Michelle Obama said, “we’re proud to have him [McChrystal] on board” and White House Press Secretary Carney said “that [President] Obama is “very aware … of the general’s résumé.”

Note: For background, I would suggest reading Mick Brown’s October 2010 profile, “Betrayal of An All-American Hero, see the Jon Krakauer post (pp. 23-25) at http://www.feralfirefighter.bl..., Jake Tapper’s “ABC News Exclusive: Pat Tillman’s Mom Wants General Stanley McChrystal Removed From White House Post” (April 13, 2011) and Narda Zacchino’s “What Stanley McChrystal Did to Pat Tillman’s Family” (Truthdig.com, April 13, 2011): “It is bewildering and tasteless, after McChrystal’s callous disregard for the Tillman family throughout this entire episode, that Barack Obama should appoint him to a high-profile position having anything to do with helping military families.”

Re: The Doctor Is In: Fight Childhood Obesity

Big shocker there. My childhood was nothing like that of kids today. There were no screens of any kind. You wanted a story or some entertainment, you had to read. We didn't get toys that encouraged lethargy. Most of our toys demanded movement. At least an hour of physical activity? Please... We had to be threatened with corporal punishment in order to get us off our bicycles or in from the snowball fights by nightfall.

Re: The Doctor Is In: Fight Childhood Obesity

The problem I have is my two year old cant gain wieght. I'm always told he is under weight but he eats ALL THE TIME what do I do?

Re: Boosting Support to Special-needs Families

Why put all the EFMP information on Military One Source vs. a domain name that simply says EFMP.gov/org/com/mil.... all of which I just googled and saw no websites. If I were a newly diagnosed family trying to find information on the EFMP services available across the board, then that would be the first thing I would look for. You could put all the information on either of those sites, with redirecting links to the site you want people to ultimately go to.

The other suggestion I have would be to have all the seminars that are offered become webinars, taped and archived so that I could access any presentation from any installation at any time from the comfort of my own home. If you qualify for EFMP and really need the information they offer, chances are that you are already run ragged with appointments and therapies for your child. Trying to juggle child care for your SN child and their appointments to add something that will be informative but is not medically necessary is a hard choice to make. With 7 therapies a week, not including doctor appointments, there have been many times when her therapies or schedule prevented me from going to a presentation and I missed out on valuable information. Kim Preston of ProParents South Carolina is a presenter on Wright's Law and other similar laws that should not be missed... although I miss it on a regular basis. Would love to see accessibility from my computer by signing in with my Marine's last four. Parent education is key.

It is sad news that Afghasnistan remains the area of fighting for such a long period. I always failed to understand for what sake people fight and destroy each other. I doubt that soldiers themselves want to participate in military operations - it is there governments who are responsible for the continuation of the aggressiveness.

It is so important that these soldiers receive treatment, and with so many soldiers suffering from TBI's and PTSD, my concern is that not all of them are treated. Finding a TBI treatment program like the Neurologic Rehbiliation Institute at Brookhaven or the Fla Institute for Neurlogic Rehab might be a solution for those who have not yet been treated.
